Sandakan looks out over Sandakan Bay toward the Sulu Sea, and it was once the capital of British North Borneo, a history still visible in the Agnes Keith House on the hill above town, the home of the writer who called Sabah the "Land Below the Wind." Above the harbour the Puu Jih Shih Temple catches the light over the bay, and a short way out of town the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre draws visitors from around the world. Sandakan is one of Sabah's most mixed cities, with long-settled Chinese, Bajau, Suluk, Malay and other communities living side by side.

In large, mixed classes a single shaky topic slips past unnoticed.

The work

Some students want to rescue a weak foundation; others are aiming for an A. One-to-one lessons let you teach both well, because the plan is built for one person.

Each lesson is one teacher and one Form 4 or 5 student, working through the KSSM Chemistry syllabus and SPM exam technique. Lessons are taught in English, the language our students sit the paper in.
