Teach SPM Chemistry online from Segamat

Teaching from Segamat

This posting covers Segamat and the surrounding Segamat district in Johor. If you live nearby but not in Segamat itself, apply anyway and tell us your town.

Segamat is the northern gateway of Johor, close to the Negeri Sembilan border and the historic railway junction country. Local lore traces its name to the words "Segar amat", meaning "very fresh", said by tired troops who drank from the river here centuries ago.

The Muar River runs through the district, and the old Buloh Kasap bridge nearby, damaged in the Second World War and long known as Jambatan Putus, still marks the town's wartime history. Segamat is a farming district of oil palm, rubber and the durians it is known for, and one where the river also brings seasonal floods.

Teachers in Segamat often tell us the hardest part of private tuition is the travel between homes. With us that disappears, since each lesson is online and one to one.

The work

Our students are Form 4 and 5 candidates preparing for SPM Chemistry, and every lesson is one to one. You explain, they try, and you correct in the moment, all in English.

School holidays and the months before SPM tend to be busier. If you can offer extra hours then, say so, and keep a lighter load the rest of the year.

You teach one student at a time, so every lesson is built around what that student needs next. Expect mole calculations one week and Paper 3 practical answers the next.

Freelance means you stay in control of your week. You can grow your hours as you settle in, or keep them light during busy school terms.
