Teaching from Jerantut

This posting covers Jerantut and the surrounding Jerantut district in Pahang. If you live nearby but not in Jerantut itself, apply anyway and tell us your town.

Jerantut is best known as the gateway to Taman Negara, the ancient rainforest that became Malaysia's first national park. Travellers pass through the town on the way to the Kuala Tembeling jetty, where a river boat carries them upstream into the forest, and the Kota Gelanggi limestone caves lie a short way to the east.

Jerantut is also the largest district in the whole of Pahang, a vast stretch of forest, river and farmland dotted with FELDA settlements.

There is no centre to travel to and no fixed classroom in Jerantut. Your commute is the walk to your laptop, which leaves more of your time for teaching itself.

The work

Each lesson is one teacher and one Form 4 or 5 student, working through the KSSM Chemistry syllabus and SPM exam technique. Lessons are taught in English, the language our students sit the paper in.

Evenings and weekends are when most students want lessons, which suits teachers with a day job. If you have daytime slots too, mention them.

A typical lesson mixes concept teaching with exam questions, taught in English over video. Because it is one to one, you can slow down or speed up for the student in front of you.

Freelance means you stay in control of your week. You can grow your hours as you settle in, or keep them light during busy school terms.
