Ampang holds an unusual place in the region's history: it was here, from 1857, that tin mining first took hold, and the ore shipped out of Ampang is what drew people to the muddy confluence downstream that became Kuala Lumpur. The name itself comes from the Malay word for a dam, recalling the waterworks the early miners built.

Today Ampang is a mature suburb straddling the Selangor–Kuala Lumpur boundary, with Ampang Jaya on the Selangor side and the diplomatic stretch of Jalan Ampang leading toward the KLCC skyline and the Petronas Twin Towers just to the west. Home languages span Malay, Mandarin, English and Tamil.

The work

Each lesson is one teacher and one Form 4 or 5 student, working through the KSSM Chemistry syllabus and SPM exam technique. Lessons are taught in English, the language our students sit the paper in.
