Kuala Kubu Bharu, known to everyone as KKB, is one of Malaysia's most distinctive small towns. After the original settlement was destroyed by a flood in the 1880s, the new town was laid out on higher ground as a planned garden township, designed by Charles Compton Reade, the first government town planner of the day, and its neat grid of colonial shophouses and wide, tree-lined streets still gives KKB its calm, orderly character.
