Teaching from Melaka City

This posting covers Melaka City and the surrounding Melaka Tengah district in Melaka. If you live nearby but not in Melaka City itself, apply anyway and tell us your town.

Melaka City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and few Malaysian towns are so easy to picture: the red Dutch Stadthuys on the square, the Portuguese ruins of A Famosa and St Paul's Hill above it, the lantern-hung shophouses of Jonker Street, and the river winding through the old core. Home languages span Malay, Mandarin and dialect, English and Tamil, and the Peranakan heritage adds its own character to the city's mix.

Melaka, the historic UNESCO city state, spans Melaka City, Alor Gajah and Jasin.

Living in Melaka City is no obstacle, because every lesson happens over video. You teach from your own desk, and the student joins from theirs, wherever they are in Malaysia.

From Melaka City, the only tools you need are a laptop or tablet, a camera and a pen for worked examples. We share questions and notes on screen during the lesson.

The work

You teach one student at a time, so every lesson is built around what that student needs next. Expect mole calculations one week and Paper 3 practical answers the next.

You might teach two evenings a week, or most weekday afternoons; both work. Put your real availability in the application so lessons fit your life.

Some students want to rescue a weak foundation; others are aiming for an A. One-to-one lessons let you teach both well, because the plan is built for one person.

Evenings and weekends are when most students want lessons, which suits teachers with a day job. If you have daytime slots too, mention them.
