Setapak has long been one of the city’s education corridors. The main campus of Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) sprawls across a hilly site on Jalan Genting Kelang, and the townships around it, Danau Kota, Wangsa Maju, Taman Melati, Sri Rampai, carry the hum of a student neighbourhood, with the Uptown Danau Kota night market a landmark of its own after dark.

It is a dense, well-connected part of the city, and one where a secondary student is rarely short of academic ambition around them. What is scarcer is calm, one-to-one time on a hard subject.

Swap the Genting Klang crawl for an hour at home

The arteries through Setapak, Jalan Genting Kelang, the DUKE highway, the road down toward the city, fill up at exactly the after-school hours a student would travel to a class. Online one-to-one lessons take that trip out of the day.

A student in Danau Kota, Wangsa Maju, Taman Melati or Sri Rampai joins an experienced SPM Chemistry teacher from home, and the full hour goes into the subject rather than the traffic. Who our Setapak students are

Setapak’s SPM candidates come from a genuinely mixed set of schools: national secondary schools (SMK), national-type Chinese schools (SMJK), and a share of private and independent schools, reflecting the mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian families long settled across Wangsa Maju and the surrounding neighbourhoods. Home languages span Malay, Mandarin, English and Tamil.

Whatever the school, the paper is the same: SPM Chemistry, subject code 4541, examined in English. We teach in English, the language of the exam, while keeping the Malay and Mandarin terms a student already knows within reach, so an idea such as a mole, an electrolyte or an exothermic reaction is understood from either side and written down correctly under time.

How the lessons work

Every session is anchored to the KSSM syllabus and DSKP content standards the school teaches, so our lessons reinforce classwork. We prepare all three papers: the objective questions of Paper 1, the structured and extended answers of Paper 2, and the practical assessment of Paper 3, where we coach planning a fair test, tabulating readings, plotting graphs and drawing conclusions the data supports.

Because Chemistry builds on itself, a one-to-one teacher can go back to a weak early topic, chemical formulae, the mole concept, acids and bases, and repair it while keeping pace with current work, then move toward timed practice and precise marking-scheme wording as SPM nears.
