What Form 4 asks, and where students slow down
Form 4 is the foundation year of SPM Chemistry, subject code 4541, and its eight chapters are Introduction to Chemistry, Matter and the Atomic Structure, The Mole Concept with Chemical Formulae and Equations, The Periodic Table of Elements, Chemical Bond, Acids, Bases and Salts, Rate of Reaction, and Manufactured Substances in Industry. The Periodic Table of Elements is where many Melaka students stop reasoning and start memorising.
The Table is meant to be a map: an element’s group and period follow from its electron arrangement, and the trends down Group 1, Group 17 and Group 18, or across a period, follow from that same structure. A student who learns to read those patterns can predict properties instead of recalling lists, and that habit pays off again in bonding, acids and the rest of the course.
How our Form 4 lessons work
One-to-one means the lesson follows one student, not a class average. We keep pace with what the Melaka school is teaching now, then double back to firm up whatever is shaky, a group trend explained backwards, an electron arrangement written wrongly.
Sessions are anchored to the DSKP content standards, and from early on we build exam discipline: clean working, correct units and answers phrased to match the question. We introduce the Paper 1 and Paper 2 styles through the year and begin the science-process skills the Paper 3 practical assesses, so Form 5 brings no surprises.
