Kuala Nerus is the state’s university district. Its most recognisable landmarks are campuses: Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), with its marine and maritime faculties near the coast, and Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) at Gong Badak, together with the teacher-training Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Dato’ Razali Ismail.
Around them Gong Badak has grown into a busy township of student housing, shops and young families, while Batu Rakit keeps the older character of a fishing and farming coast a little further north. It is a district full of higher education, which does not, on its own, put an SPM-level Chemistry teacher within reach of a sixteen-year-old.

Students here sit SPM from national secondary schools (SMK) across Gong Badak, Batu Rakit and the surrounding mukim, and some from religious schools and the state’s residential schools (SBP) and MRSM colleges. Growing up beside universities raises the sights of many families, but the SPM paper does not change for it: SPM Chemistry, subject code 4541, examined in English.
Most students carry Malay as their first language, with a smaller Chinese community adding Mandarin at home. We teach in English, the language of the exam, while keeping the Malay terms a student already knows within reach, so an idea such as a mole, an electrolyte or a redox reaction is understood from either side and written correctly under time pressure.
How the lessons work
Every session is built on the KSSM syllabus and DSKP content standards the school teaches, so our lessons reinforce classwork. We prepare all three papers: the objective questions of Paper 1, the structured and extended answers of Paper 2, and the practical assessment of Paper 3, where we coach planning a fair test, tabulating readings, plotting graphs and drawing conclusions the data supports.
Because Chemistry is cumulative, a one-to-one teacher can return to a shaky early topic, chemical formulae, the mole concept, salts, electrochemistry, and repair it while keeping pace with current work, then move toward timed practice and precise marking-scheme wording as SPM approaches.
