The Form 4 scope, and where it gets hard

Form 4 is the foundation year of KSSM Chemistry, subject code 4541, and its 8 chapters set the base that the whole SPM grade later rests on. The year opens with Introduction to Chemistry and the laboratory habits, safety, apparatus and measurement, that Paper 3 will assess, then moves into Matter and the Atomic Structure, and quickly into the part most Form 4 students hit as a wall: The Mole Concept, Chemical Formulae and Equations.

This is where marks are quietly won or lost, because relative atomic mass, the Avogadro constant of 6.02 x 10²³ mol⁻¹, the molar volume of 24 dm³ mol⁻¹ at room conditions and correctly balanced equations become the arithmetic behind almost everything that follows. From there the syllabus builds through The Periodic Table of Elements, Chemical Bonds, Acids Bases and Salts, Rate of Reaction, and Manufactured Substances in Industry.
