Form 5 Chemistry, subject code 4541, is a shorter list of chapters than Form 4 but a heavier one: Redox Equilibrium, Carbon Compounds, Thermochemistry, Polymers, and Consumer and Industrial Chemistry. Carbon Compounds is where many Kajang students feel the ground shift, a whole world of homologous series, isomers, and the reactions that link alkanes, alkenes, alcohols and carboxylic acids, all of which must be recalled precisely and written as correct structural formulae.
Redox and electrochemistry demand confident oxidation numbers and a clear head about what happens at each electrode, while Thermochemistry brings enthalpy calculations and energy-profile diagrams. These are the topics that fill Paper 2, so they are where marks are won or lost.
