Form 5 Chemistry, subject code 4541, covers Redox Equilibrium, Carbon Compounds, Thermochemistry, Polymers, and Consumer and Industrial Chemistry. Carbon Compounds is the chapter that most rewards patient work: a whole map of homologous series, alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, carboxylic acids and esters, with isomers and the reactions that connect them, all to be recalled precisely and written as correct structural formulae.
Running through the whole year alongside it is Paper 3, the practical assessment, which tests science process skills rather than recall: designing a fair investigation, handling variables, and turning readings into a graph and a sound conclusion. Organic recall and practical technique are two very different skills, and both have to be sharp by the exam.
