Bahau is an inland railway town with more history than its size suggests. The Bahau railway station, opened in 1910, still sits on the KTM line and gave the town its start as a junction and market centre for the surrounding country.
During the Second World War, Bahau became the site of an agricultural resettlement, the “Fuji-Go” or Beautiful Village project, where Eurasian and Chinese Catholic families were sent to farm and try to feed themselves through hard years. Today the town anchors a district of oil-palm estates and FELDA settlements, and its Form 4 and Form 5 students face the same modern question as anyone else: how to turn effort in Chemistry into marks on the SPM paper.
