With a fixed date approaching, the plan is deliberately front-loaded and ruthless about priorities:
- Diagnostic (first lesson or two). The teacher works through recent school or trial-exam papers with your child to find exactly which chapters and question types are losing marks, usually not the ones the student assumes.
- Consolidation. The next phase targets the highest-mark, highest-frequency topics first: the mole and stoichiometry, redox and electrolysis, acids-bases-salts and qualitative analysis, and organic chemistry. Time is not spent equally; it is spent where the marks are.
- Timed past-paper practice. As the exam nears, lessons shift to attempting past-paper-style questions under time pressure, then marking them together so the student sees precisely where marks are earned and lost.
- Final week. A light, confidence-focused finish: quick reviews, an exam-day checklist, and calm rather than cramming.
Because it is one-to-one, each phase bends to your child, more time on the weak calculation, less on the secure recall.
Which chapters carry the most marks?
We do not publish invented per-chapter mark allocations, because Lembaga Peperiksaan does not release them that way. What an experienced teacher can do is prioritise sensibly: the mole concept and its calculations underpin many questions across both papers; redox and electrolysis are heavily examined and technique-dependent; acids, bases and salts appear reliably, including in qualitative analysis; and organic chemistry rewards students who can name and draw structures cleanly.
For a 2026 candidate short on time, securing these before the exam usually matters more than polishing an already-strong chapter.
Exam technique for the three papers
The SPM Chemistry assessment uses three papers: an objective Paper 1 worth 40 marks marks in 1 hour 15 minutes, a written Paper 2 worth 100 marks marks, and a practical Paper 3. For a 2026 candidate, technique often matters more than extra content this late: fast, accurate elimination on Paper 1; structured working and disciplined command-word answers on Paper 2, especially the Section C essay; and clean planning, tables and graphs for Paper 3.

This is the single highest-value thing a 2026 candidate can do with the time they have left, and it is almost impossible to do well in a group class where nobody reads an individual student’s script.
A typical intensive schedule for a 2026 candidate
There is no one right schedule, but a common shape for a 2026 candidate is two one-to-one lessons a week through the run-in, each with a clear focus, plus independent practice in between. A week might look like one lesson rebuilding and drilling a high-impact weak topic, say the mole and stoichiometry, or redox and electrolysis, and a second lesson spent entirely on timed past-paper-style questions, marked together so the student sees exactly where marks were won and lost.

What good late-stage progress actually looks like is fewer careless marks lost, weak chapters becoming answerable, and a student who walks into the hall knowing how to structure each type of question.
How far a candidate can move depends on where they start, how many weeks remain, and how much they practise between lessons, and a good teacher will tell you plainly what is realistic rather than sell you false hope.
