A national school on the island

George Town is the capital of Pulau Pinang, on the northeast of the island, a dense and long-settled city where a school day is bracketed by travel and, for many students, followed by extra classes. A national secondary school here teaches the national curriculum, and its students sit the SPM examination common across the country. Day schools of this kind are often large, and in a full classroom even a committed teacher cannot pause on every student’s particular difficulty, which is exactly the space one-to-one lessons are meant to fill.

Doing it online also removes the commute. Rather than adding another journey across the island at the end of the day, the lesson reaches the student at home, and the whole hour is spent on Chemistry rather than on the road.

What undivided attention changes

In a one-to-one lesson the teacher works with a single student and nobody else. Every question is answered as it arises, the pace follows that one student rather than the middle of a class, and the teacher keeps a running record of exactly what is secure and what still needs work. The next session picks up where the last one ended, so understanding accumulates through the year instead of resetting after each break. For a subject like Chemistry, where one misunderstood idea quietly undermines everything that rests on it, that continuity is worth a great deal.

English for the paper, with support for Malay terms

We teach in English, the medium of the SPM Chemistry paper, and we support the Malay terms a student already carries from the classroom, so a definition can be reached in either register when exam time is short. The aim is a student who can read a question and write an answer confidently in the language of the paper while never losing the understanding built up in class.

Aligned with KSSM and DSKP

We build every lesson on the KSSM curriculum and the DSKP content standards, the framework the school teaches to, so our sessions reinforce classwork rather than compete with it. When practical work is in view we coach the Paper 3 science process skills directly: planning a fair test, tabulating readings, plotting and reading graphs, and writing conclusions the data supports. Because Chemistry is cumulative, an unsteady early topic, the mole concept, salts, or electrochemistry, quietly makes later chapters harder; a one-to-one teacher can close that gap while keeping up with current work, then move to timed questions and precise marking-scheme wording as SPM approaches.
