A college in the far north of Perak

MRSM Gerik sits in Gerik, an inland town in the far north of Perak, up near the hills and the east–west road that crosses the peninsula. It is not a place with a specialist tutor on every corner, and getting to a bigger town for extra tuition can mean a long drive. Boarding is part of MRSM life: a student stays on campus through the school week, working through a full timetable and supervised night study, and heads home mainly on leave weekends and in the longer term and semester breaks.

We teach in English, the language of the SPM Chemistry paper, while keeping the Malay terms a student already uses ready to hand, so a definition can be given either way when the clock is against you. Where practical work is involved, we coach the Paper 3 science process skills directly: setting up a fair test, recording readings in a clean table, drawing and interpreting graphs, and writing conclusions the evidence supports.

Closing gaps before the exam

Chemistry stacks up, so a shaky early topic, the mole concept, reacting masses and stoichiometry, or writing and balancing equations, makes everything after it harder than it should be. A one-to-one teacher can reach back and close that gap while still moving with the current chapter, then shift to timed questions, model answers and the exact wording the marking scheme looks for as SPM approaches. Regular lessons across the year do far more good than a scramble at the end.
