We provide online one-to-one SPM Chemistry lessons in English for students of Maktab Sabah, a national secondary school (SMK) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Lessons follow KSSM and DSKP and reach a student across the sea with no travel.

We are not affiliated with Maktab Sabah. This page is written by an independent online tuition service, and it only explains how our one-to-one SPM Chemistry lessons can help a student at a national secondary school (SMK) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Sabah’s state capital

Kota Kinabalu is the state capital of Sabah, a coastal city on the west coast of Borneo, separated from Peninsular Malaysia by the South China Sea. A national secondary school here teaches the national curriculum and prepares its students for the same SPM papers sat right across the country. Sitting in East Malaysia, though, brings one practical difficulty that has nothing to do with the school: a family looking for a dedicated one-to-one Chemistry specialist may find fewer options close to home than a family on the peninsula, simply because of where Sabah is.

A specialist without crossing the sea

Online lessons are what close that distance. Because the teaching happens over a screen, an experienced Chemistry teacher is no further from a student in Kota Kinabalu than from a student in the Klang Valley, nothing to cross the sea for, no travel of any kind, and no shortlist limited to whoever teaches locally. A student in Sabah gets exactly the same one-to-one attention as anyone else in the country, on the same terms, at a time that suits the family. For East Malaysian students, that reach is the whole point of learning online.

Steady progress through the year

Chemistry is a subject that builds on itself, so a gap in an early chapter, the mole concept, bonding, acids and bases, quietly makes later chapters harder. The students who gain most from us keep a regular weekly hour through Form 4 and Form 5, closing gaps as they appear and keeping pace with the school, rather than booking a panicked block just before the exam. As SPM approaches, that same steady rhythm shifts naturally towards timed questions and precise marking-scheme wording, so nothing has to be crammed at the end.

English for the paper, with Malay terms supported

We teach in English, the medium of the SPM Chemistry paper, so a student practises reading and answering in the register the examiner uses. At the same time we keep within reach the Malay terms already learned in class, so a definition can be checked in either language when time is short and the familiar term becomes a bridge on exam day rather than an obstacle.

KSSM, DSKP and the practical paper

Every lesson is anchored to the KSSM curriculum and the DSKP content standards the school teaches to, so our sessions reinforce classwork rather than compete with it. When the practical paper is in view we coach the Paper 3 science process skills directly, planning a fair test, tabulating readings, plotting and reading graphs, and writing conclusions the data supports. Because the same tutor stays with the student and keeps notes between sessions, the time remains aimed at the specific weaknesses that matter.

Every lesson is taught by one of our own experienced SPM Chemistry teachers. A new student begins with a paid one-hour trial to sit a real lesson, and regular lessons run from RM50 an hour.

Frequently asked questions

We are in Sabah, across the sea from the peninsula. Can we still get a specialist Chemistry tutor?

Yes. Lessons are online, so an experienced teacher reaches a Kota Kinabalu student at home just as easily as one on the peninsula. We are independent and not affiliated with Maktab Sabah.

When is a good time to start?

As early as suits. A steady weekly hour through Form 4 and Form 5 is far more effective than a rushed block just before SPM.
