Concordant titres are titration readings that agree closely, usually within about 0.10 cm³, and are averaged to give a reliable result.

Concordant titres are burette readings from repeated titrations that agree closely, usually within about 0.10 cm³ of one another, and are the readings you average to get a reliable result. A titration is repeated because a single reading might carry a small error; when two or three titres land within that narrow range, they confirm each other and the average of them is trustworthy.

A worked example shows the selection. Suppose four titrations give 24.50, 23.80, 23.85 and 23.75 cm³. The first, at 24.50, is the rough (trial) titre and is set aside; the other three lie within 0.10 cm³ of each other, so they are concordant. You average only those three: (23.80 + 23.85 + 23.75) ÷ 3 = 23.80 cm³. That averaged titre is the one used in the calculation, not the rough value and not a simple average of all four.

The confusion to avoid is averaging every reading regardless of agreement. Including the rough titre, or a clearly stray result, drags the average off and loses marks. A second slip is thinking “concordant” means “correct”, concordant titres are consistent with each other, which shows good precision, but consistency is not the same as accuracy; a technique with a fixed fault could give concordant but wrong titres. Concordance tells you the readings are repeatable, and repeatability is what the averaging step relies on.
