Both one-to-one and group tuition can help a student pass SPM Chemistry. They work in different ways, though, and the right choice depends on the student. Here is an honest comparison to help you decide.
Pace and attention
In a group class, the teacher sets one pace for everyone. A confident student may be held back; a student who is behind may be left behind. In one-to-one lessons, the pace is set by your child alone, the teacher slows down on the mole concept or electrochemistry if that is where the gap is, and moves quickly through what is already secure. Every question gets answered, and there is nowhere to hide a misunderstanding, which for a subject as cumulative as Chemistry matters a great deal.
Diagnosing the real problem
Chemistry marks are often lost for specific, fixable reasons, a shaky grasp of writing ionic equations, weak Paper 3 practical technique, or losing marks on Paper 2 structured answers. In a group it is hard for a teacher to pin down each student’s exact weakness. One-to-one, the teacher can watch how your child actually works a problem and fix the specific habit that is costing marks.
Cost
Group tuition usually has a lower price per hour, and for some families that is the deciding factor. One-to-one costs more per hour, our lessons are from RM50, but the hour is spent entirely on your child, so fewer hours are often needed to fix a specific problem. It is worth comparing the total cost of reaching the grade, not just the hourly rate.
Social learning vs focus
Some students genuinely learn well in a group, they are motivated by classmates and enjoy discussion. A student like that may thrive in group tuition. Others are distracted in a group, or are too shy to ask the questions that would help them most. If your child hesitates to speak up in class, one-to-one removes that barrier completely.
