Most students revise Chemistry in the order the textbook prints, or worse, in the order they happen to feel like. But the 8 chapters Form 4 and 5 chapters Form 5 chapters are not independent, some are foundations that everything else stands on, and others quietly depend on skills taught chapters earlier. Revise in the wrong order and you keep hitting walls that are really just gaps from an earlier topic. Revise in dependency order and each chapter makes the next one easier. Here is the order we recommend, and why.
Rule one: the mole concept comes first
If you fix only one thing about your revision order, make it this: master the Mole Concept before almost anything else. Moles, relative formula mass, writing and balancing equations, and reading a mole ratio are the machinery behind a huge share of Paper 2 calculations, in acids and bases, redox, thermochemistry and industrial chemistry alike. A student who is shaky on moles does not have “a mole problem”; they have a problem that resurfaces in five other chapters. Get it automatic early and the whole subject gets lighter.
Rule two: build the conceptual base before the reactions
A second cluster of early chapters gives you the language the rest of the course speaks. Matter and the Atomic Structure explains what atoms and ions are; The Periodic Table of Elements explains how properties trend across groups and periods; Chemical Bond explains why substances form and behave as they do. These do not involve heavy calculation, but every later explanation, why an ionic compound conducts when molten, why Group 18 is unreactive, leans on them. Revise this base before the chapters that ask you to apply it.
A recommended sequence
Putting those rules together, a sensible revision order looks like this. Adapt it to your own weak spots, but keep the dependencies intact.
- Introduction to Chemistry, lab safety, apparatus and science process skills. Light, and it also underpins Paper 3.
- Matter and the Atomic Structure, atoms, isotopes, electron arrangement.
- The Mole Concept, Chemical Formula and Equation, the calculation engine. Spend real time here.
- The Periodic Table of Elements, trends built on atomic structure.
- Chemical Bond, ionic and covalent bonding, built on electron arrangement.
- Acids, Bases and Salts, heavy on both concepts and mole calculations, so it comes after both.
- Rate of Reaction, collision theory and graph interpretation.
- Manufactured Substances in Industry, applies earlier ideas to real processes.
Then move into Form 5, where the reasoning deepens:
- Redox Equilibrium, oxidation numbers, cells and electrolysis; leans on bonding and moles.
- Carbon Compounds, organic chemistry; largely self-contained, so its position is flexible.
- Thermochemistry, heat changes and energy-level diagrams; uses moles throughout.
- Polymers, builds on carbon compounds.
- Consumer and Industrial Chemistry, applied, and a sensible place to finish.

Two topics you can move around
Not every chapter is locked in place. Carbon Compounds and its follow-on Polymers form a fairly self-contained organic block, if organic chemistry is your weakness, you can pull it forward without breaking anything else. Likewise Introduction to Chemistry is light enough to revisit any time, especially close to Paper 3. Knowing which chapters are load-bearing and which are movable lets you plan around your own timetable.
Do not confuse “hard” with “first”
A common mistake is to start with the chapter that scares you most and grind at it for weeks. But if that hard chapter depends on an earlier one you have not secured, you are fighting two gaps at once. Fix the foundation first; often the scary chapter turns out to be hard only because the groundwork was missing. Diagnose honestly: when a topic feels impossible, ask whether the real gap is an earlier skill.
Order the chapters, then order your weeks
Once you have a sequence, spread it across the weeks you have.
